Mountains of Lahaina

from $19.99

Taken at: 20.874°, -156.679°

It is hard to imagine how large the volcano-created mountains of Maui are but when looking at them in comparison to the building of Lahaina the true magnitude can be seen. The mountain in this picture ranges from 800,000 to 1.3 million years old.

It is hard to imagine something this old but what might be more fascinating is the town of Lahaina. The street seen in this image is known as Front Street and it dates back to the 1820s. Lahaina has many historical attractions one of which is the oldest banyan tree in the United States which was planted in 1873 and can be seen on the right of the image.

While Lahaina is not the only historical town on the island of Maui it may be one of the coolest to see because of the extreme elevation difference ranging from a few feet above sea level to over 5000 feet. In addition to that, the word Lahaina means “Cruel Sun” in the Hawaiian language due to the town's year-round sunny and warm weather making it a great place to visit, or just welcome some of the Hawaiian spirits, sun and warmth into your home through this metal print.
